My heart story

I live with a rare heart condition.  At the age of 42, following a sudden collapse, I was diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy – a disease affecting the heart pump.  I had never heard of it!  It was one of the rarest forms of the disease, causing arrhythmias and the possibility of cardiac arrest and sudden death - ARVC.  There is no known cure, it is progressive and potentially life-limiting.  It is also one of the few heart conditions for which exercise is contra-indicated, meaning no more aerobic exercise classes or running for me.  This was tough.  I had taught exercise a few years prior and was still a bit of fitness addict.  Exercise was my main hobby and formed a huge part of my social life at that time. 

 Given that the risk of sudden death was always there, I decided to have an implanted defibrillator (ICD) fitted in 2005.  It was like an insurance policy  - something you hope you’ll never have to draw on, but vital should you ever be unfortunate enough to need it.  In my case it was the only option to save my life should my heart decide to flip again into a dangerous tachycardia.    I call it my iPom – implanted peace of mind.  To date I have had 3 operations relating to new batteries, boxes and leads – on the outside I look the same, but my chest x-ray looks like a spaghetti junction of wires!

 Over the years I have been shocked back to normal rhythm many times – each time it has happened quickly and unexpectedly.  Learning to deal with this and the anxiety it can cause has at times been challenging. But, here I am, 15 years on from diagnosis and finally feeling able to share my story in the hope that it might help others living with fear and unhappiness in their lives.

 Life-changing experiences come in many forms, not all of them to do with illness.  Drawing on my own experience I can help you to overcome obstacles and rediscover true happiness again. I have been teaching, training and coaching in the business world for over 30 years.  I now want to use my experience, both professional and personal, to offer one-on-one coaching sessions.

Once I receive your email request for a free consultation I will contact you to arrange a convenient time for us to talk.  Depending on location, this will either be a face-to-face meeting or an internet consultation.

The initial consultation

We need to establish a positive working relationship to ensure that you are relaxed and confident in your choice of coach.  My aim is ensure that you get the most out of each consultation and so laying a firm foundation is key.  We will explore your current wellbeing and work towards a roadmap for wellness, vitality and happiness. 

Continuing your journey

Depending on your needs we will continue to work together at regular intervals, gradually reducing our sessions as you regain your inner strength, start to feel more confident, positive and ready to fly.
